New NSF Proposal & Award Policies & Procedures Guide ()

Effective May 20, 2024

IMPORTANT CHANGES IN PAPPG 24-1

1) Biographical Sketch ()

NSF has implemented the biographical sketch common form leading to the following changes:

  • The 鈥淪ynergistic Activities鈥 section is no longer part of the biographical sketch
  • The 3-page limitation has been removed
  • New common form is now available in SciENcv (however these revised formats cannot be uploaded in Research.gov or Grants.gov until May 20, 2024)

2) Current and Pending (Other) Support ():

NSF provides an updated table regarding pre-award and post-award disclosure information ().

3) Synergistic Activities  ()

  • Not included in biographical sketch anymore
  • Separate upload as pdf file for each senior/key person in Research.gov
  • May be up to one page

4) Mentoring Plan ()

Requirement is expanded to include both, postdoctoral researchers and graduate students . Note: It remains a single document that addresses both categories (if funding is included in the proposed budget) and the page limitation continues to be one page. However, within this page the plan may specify how different components of the mentoring program will be enacted for the two types of researchers.

5) New Proposal Certifications for Senior/Key Personnel (): Each senior/key person must certify prior to proposal submission (and annually thereafter for the duration of the award) that they are not a party to a malign foreign talent recruitment program.

6) Proposals that may impact Tribal Resources or Interests ()
NSF will not award proposals without prior written approval from the official(s) designated by the relevant Tribal Nation(s). The Cover Sheet will have a new checkbox indicating if there are 鈥淧otential Impacts on Tribal Nations鈥. Proposals that may impact the resources or interests of a federally recognized American Indian or Alaska Native Tribal Nation (Tribal Nation) require at least one of the following at the time of submission:

  • A copy of the written request to the relevant Tribe(s) to carry out any proposed activity/activities that may require prior approval from the Tribal Nation(s)
  • Written confirmation from the Tribal Nation(s) that review and approval is not required
  • A copy of a document from the relevant Tribal Nation(s) that provides the requisite approval
