What is Certificate of Eligibility (COE)?

It is a formal document that explains what VA entitlement you possess through the Department of Veterans Affairs.

How do I get a COE?

A COE is issued by the VA after they have received and reviewed an application for VA benefits.  The application process can be started directly from the VA's webpage.

How do I get a copy or replaceent of my COE?

You can get a copy of your education decision letter online or by mail. Check out the VA's page for specific details.

Are there substitutes for the COE?

Since the COE verifies the existence of VA education benefits,  acceptable substitutes are: Notice of Basic Eligibility (NOBE), Statement of Benefits (SOB) or VR&E authorization for those using Chapter 31 GI Bill benefits.
