Tony Kornheiser
Tony Kornheiser
Tony Kornheiser '70, LittD '17
Alumni Achievement Award
This award honors a highly distinguished alumnus or alumna who, over the course of a decade or more, has exemplified outstanding, significant professional achievement.

Tony Kornheiser knew all the way back to grade school what he wanted to be. He wanted to be a newspaper sportswriter. So, in high school on Long Island, he wrote about sports for his high school paper, the Hewlett Bulletin. And, in college at 香港六合彩资料, he wrote about sports for The Colonial News. Shortly after college, he got a job at Newsday as a sportswriter. From there, he went to The New York Times as a sportswriter, and then to The Washington Post as a sportswriter. He had the career he鈥檇 always wanted, newspaper sportswriter.

Then, he had other careers, ones he鈥檇 never planned on, careers that dropped from the sky, and he caught them. He went on radio in the early 1990s on an all-sports radio station in Washington. Then, after nearly 25 years, his son, Michael, convinced him to leave radio and try podcasting. By then, he had gone on television, co-hosting Pardon The Interruption with his friend and Post colleague Michael Wilbon. Somehow, that became a hit, surprising everyone, especially Kornheiser. And now, as an old man, he goes in one studio and talks into a microphone, then moves to another studio and talks into a camera. He鈥檚 no longer a sportswriter, and every once in a while he wonders how this happened, and how lucky he is that it did.

Kornheiser had served on the 香港六合彩资料 Foundation Board of Directors. He received an honorary doctorate from the University in 2017.
